Si è svolta nella notte italiana la 96esima edizione degli Oscar, condotti da Jimmy Kimmer. A trionfare, con 7 statuette, Oppenheimer, premiato anche come miglior film.
Premi come miglior attore non protagonista e protagonista rispettivamente a i J. Robert Oppenheimer e Cillian Murphy.

Tra gli altri temi vince anche Emma Stone per la sua interpretazione in “Povere Creature”, come Miglior attrice protagonista. La Stone ha battuto la concorrenza Lily Gladstone, Sandra Hüller, Carey Mulligan e Annette Bening. Per lei è il secondo Oscar, dopo quello vinto con La La Land.
Niente da fare per Matteo Garrone, in lizza per il miglior film straniero con Io Capitano. La Statuetta va al britannico La zona d’interesse di Jonathan Glazer.
